Moma Dog - Still Here After All these Years

I remember the day that I first came to Larry and Sheila's house.    It was cold and rainy and I was in much pain.

You see, I don't know what I had done wrong, but the people that got me as a puppy did not like me.   They did not feed me when I was hungry and they hit me a lot.   I became very afraid of them, because they were mad at me because the boy dogs came to our yard and I did not even understand why or what I did wrong.

One day they took me for a ride and while the truck was moving they threw me out.   Oh....it hurt very bad!!!    When I got to Larry and Sheila's I had been hungry for several days and my ribs hurt real bad and my tummy hurt too.

Larry made me a bed in the garage and when he was not looking I would go lay on it.  It was soft and warm, but when he came out I ran!!  They always had food outside in the feeder, so I got to eat good food also.

The second night Sheila came home.  During the night my tummy hurt and something strange happened!!  I became a Moma Dog with 4 puppies!!  They were so cute, even if they were mine!   Needless to say, Larry and Sheila were very surprised when they woke up.  CoCo was going to be a Moma also and she was very curious about my puppies.

5 days later, CoCo had 10 puppies!!  All of them Chocolate Labs!!  They looked so elegant with there rich brown coats.    Larry was going nuts!!   14 puppies and 2 Moma Dogs!!

Sheila called the SPCA to see if they could help with my puppies and find them good homes and maybe even me a home (although I was REALLY liking it here)!

At first they could not help, but then they called back and said they had an emergency and that they had 4 more puppies that needed to be nursed because their Moma had been killed by a car!  Sheila went and got those puppies and I adopted them as my own.   Now we had 18 puppies!!

Hershey just stayed in the house all the time.  He was not too impressed with all of the ruckus and all of the puppies!!

Sheila left and went back to Harrisburg, but Larry was still home to take care of all of us.    He really had his hands full!!!  He was surrounded by puppies!!

They found homes for all my puppies and CoCo's.  Every person had to come to the house and meet us and see if they would be good families.

After the puppies,  Sheila took me to a vet to be checked out.  I was very afraid!  Not only did they need to give me shots, but also to operate , so I could not have more puppies.  Also, I was afraid, they may not come back for me.  But on the second day, Larry came and got me.

We went back to the lake.   Several times I heard Larry and Sheila say they knew they did not need another dog.  They had Hershey and CoCo.  However, they just did not have the heart to give me to someone else.

Sooooo.....I stayed!!

I still am afraid of strangers and when people come, even if I have seen them before, most of the time, I go to the woods, or under the front bushes.   I let Larry and Sheila pet me sometimes.  I really like it, but I am stillllll sooooo afraid!!

CoCo got sick and went away.  In the past years, there have been other dogs that have came and Larry and Sheila took them in until they could find a new home, but they always let me stay.

Sometimes it was just me and Hershey.  Ohhhh....how I loved that big guy!!    He was sooo special and so kind to me.    In the last months he lived, he was quite feeble.   Everyday, I washed his face and if he came outside, I watched over him, until he got back inside.   There will never be another Hershey!!

Now it is just me and Jack!!!   He is just a pup!   You know how kids can be....they don't quite get the old folks!!  He is a good pup.....he will learn.

The luckiest day of my life was the day I came here.   Even though I don't want to go in the car, because......I am still afraid  of cars I go to the vet for check ups.  I get good food and I know that Larry and Sheila love me.

I love them too.   I also really like Lisa.

When they go on their adventure, I will not go.  I am not cut out for that life style.  Lisa will take me to her house where she has many other pets and lots of room for me.   They know me and will love me and take good care of me.   They understand that I am still afraid.

How lucky can a Moma Dog be????    2 great families love me!!
